Roosevelt (9-3) VS Emerson (8-4) The third place boys game put two 8-3 teams together between Roosevelt and Emerson, but in the end it was Roosevelt that faired to be too strong offensively taking the contest by a score of 55 to 40. Big 6’6” Roosevelt center Michael Downy who was shut out in the first half started his scoring spree with two thunderous dunks that brought the Fans to their feet. Girls Games Emerson (9-3) VS Garfield (6-6) In the girls third place game Nala Hemingway led the Lady Emerson Eagles with 18 points while teammate Karen Dorsey added another 13 as the Emerson Girls proved to be too strong offensively against the Lady Giants of Garfield. Leading the way for the Garfield Girls was Kyrah Rhone with 8 points.

The 6th thru 8th Grade Bee went 37 rounds GABRIEL FRANCO, 8th grader from Lincoln School was the Champion and will represent District 89 at the West 40 ISC SCRIPPS Spelling Bee on February 7, 2013! YULISSA ESCONTRIAS 6th grade student attending Garfield School, seized 1st Runner up, while 6th grader NATALIE GARCIA representing Lincoln School placed 2nd Runner up.

The 2012 Boys and Girls Soccer Season came to an end last night at Irving School. All the games were very competitive and such a pleasure to watch. On the Girls side, the 3rd Place Game needed overtime to decide a winner. After trailing 2-0 at half the Stevenson Girls scored two in the second half to force an overtime period against the Melrose Park Girls.

Five teachers in District 89 received a big surprise on Tuesday, October 2nd. They were among the 1,000 school teachers nationwide selected by OfficeMax to receive $1,000 worth of classroom supplies during OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” annual event. A team from OfficeMax and the school principal arrived at each teacher’s classroom to announce the award and present the classroom supplies. Each teacher was nominated for the award by a fellow colleague.
