Students Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Students across School District 89 celebrated the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. throughout last week.

First Graders at Jane Addams Elementary School wrote their thoughts on “I Have a Dream.” Stevenson Middle School students brainstormed on an idea board on how to keep King’s dream alive. Fourth Graders at Roosevelt Elementary School watched the “I Have a Dream” speech and learned about the timeline of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and major events surrounding it. Bulletin boards with traced hands in multiple colors were displayed at Garfield Elementary School. On each hand, students from all grades wrote words that exemplified ideas from the Civil Rights Movement.

All D89 schools were closed on Monday, Jan. 16 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
