Bilingual Department Showcases Strategies for Supporting English Learners

On December 12th, Melrose Park School partnered with Ellevation Education to highlight effective strategies for supporting English learners (ELs) in the classroom. Ellevation, a platform dedicated to advancing educational equity, values the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that ELs bring to schools.
During the filming, Melrose Park’s own R. Fernandez, a kindergarten teacher, and P. Fairholm, a first-grade teacher, demonstrated dynamic teaching approaches to promote language development and active student engagement. These strategies reflect the commitment of District 89 educators to empower, educate, and inspire students to achieve excellence in a multicultural society.
Ellevation captured these moments to share with educators, spreading innovative practices and reinforcing the importance of equitable education for all learners. The collaboration showcased the exceptional work being done in Melrose Park School and the district’s dedication to empowering students to achieve their full potential.
This project stands as a testament to the hard work of our teachers and the belief that all students, regardless of their background, deserve the opportunity to succeed.
