Shape Builders: Exploring Geometry with Geoboards
Lincoln Elementary’s fifth-grade students explored two-dimensional shapes through an engaging hands-on geoboard activity that combined creativity, critical thinking, and mathematical learning. Using rubber bands to construct a variety of polygons, students created and identified shapes while examining their attributes, including sides, angles, and vertices. Through investigation and discussion, they compared and classified shapes, strengthened their understanding of geometric concepts, and developed problem-solving skills.
This interactive experience allowed students to visualize geometry in a meaningful way, fostering confidence and enthusiasm as they built a strong foundation in mathematics.
