04/17/2020 Important Message from District 89

April 17, 2020

Dear D89 Community,

Illinois’s Governor Pritzker announced this afternoon during a press conference that all public schools in Illinois will remain closed for the remainder of this school year 2019-2020. While I know this is not the news we were hoping for it is a decision that was made in the best interest for public safety for our students and staff, but together we will get through this.

Like you, we are saddened by the reality that our school community will not be able to reconvene in person this school year due to this public health crisis. So many of you have worked so hard to learn and grow in both the classroom and in extracurricular activities that today’s announcement may feel like a step back. These past few weeks have proven our school community is more resilient, more capable and more compassionate than ever! I’m confident our collective strength will shine through during the remainder of this school year, and we will emerge even stronger.

We will continue with our state approved e-Learning plan for the remainder of this school year. For now, our continuity of instruction will take place in the same format we have implemented since March 13th with our e-Learning program and our e-Learning packets. Remember that you can access our e-Learning plans via our website and through Clever through June 3. We will also continue to provide Grab & Go meals and Grab & Go learning packets on Mondays from 10:00am – 12:00pm at all of our schools. You can also visit our new web page with additional information and resources, which can be found at https://www.maywood89.org/covid-19-updates.

We understand that there are several questions that you may have given this extended school closure period. We will continue to keep you informed as additional decisions are made for the remainder of this school year. Also, as a reminder you can also review our Frequently Asked Questions document online (https://www.maywood89.org/covid-19-updates#faq) which we will also update in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued understanding and patience throughout this pandemic. More importantly thank you for supporting your children through theses challenging times. We truly are in this together as one #D89Community.

Sincerely,
Dr. David Negron
Superintendent
