Dear 8th Grade Families,

Thank you for attending the information session about the admission process to Proviso’s Math & Science Academy (PMSA) on Tuesday, 11/19.  See tips and suggestions below to support your child’s application and potential acceptance to PMSA.

Since NWEA-MAP test is one of the main considerations for PMSA admission, it is extremely important that your child is prepared and puts forth their best effort. Your child will take this test over multiple days between December 2 and December 20 at their school.

Tips:

Make sure your child is well-rested and in attendance.

Encourage your child to practice reading and math skills by putting in extra effort and using IXL, a personalized learning software program, at home. With IXL, your child can access both reading and math questions at different levels and get immediate feedback, including steps to solving problems. Your child can access this program through their school’s Clever software portal.

Encourage your child to read 30-60 minutes nightly to help build reading stamina and be prepared for long reading passages. Your child can check out high interest, engaging books from their school library and from our local libraries, so be sure your child has something to read at home. In addition, your child can access books online through Sora at their school Clever software portal.

To access Clever, your child can use their school computer any place with an internet connection and go to our district address at https://clever.com/in/maywood89, using their District 89 email and password to login.

Be positive and supportive. There are many paths to success and, while PMSA is an excellent opportunity, this is just one step in their educational journey.
