03/13/2020 Important Message from District 89

March 13, 2020

Dear District 89 Community,

After careful consideration of information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regarding social distancing related to COVID-19, we are closing schools beginning Monday, March 16th with a tentative return date of March 30th. District 89’s Spring Break will not be impacted by these changes. Proactive school closures have been shown to be one of the most powerful interventions that we can deploy to curb the spread of a virus.

We have decided to implement our approved eLearning Plan. Students can complete their assignments in one of two ways:

  1. Online at www.maywood89.org/elearning and logging into their Clever account;
  2. Completing the hard copy assignments that will be sent home today.

Students must complete their assignments and submit them to their classroom teachers when they return to school. Teachers are available for support and can be contacted through their email or through the Parent Portal.

We also wanted to make you aware that all Proviso area school districts have also closed. Please refer to their individual websites for additional information.

Lindop School District 92 – Westchester School District 92.5 – Hillside School District 93 – Berkeley School District 87 – Bellwood School District 88 – Proviso High School District 209 – Forest Park District 91

We know this is an unprecedented decision, but these are unprecedented times and we are committed to doing our part to minimize the impact of this pandemic. Thank you for your understanding and for working with us to keep our students, our staff, our families and our communities healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Negron
